Dear Parents and AP Artist class of 2019,
This year, in an effort to be as communicative as possible with the families of our advanced art students, we are asking you plan to attend an AP Art Parents Night at Cary-Grove High School on Monday May 21st.
The goal of this meeting is to get the 2018/2019 AP Art student and at least one parent or guardian to attend this informative meeting that will frame the expectations and benefits of participating in D155 Advanced Placement Art.
Topics will include:
Educating students and families on what being an AP Studio Art students means (discipline, workload, time)
Show what an AP Studio art portfolio looks like from past D155 students in different genres (including studio Drawing, Photography, Design).
Explain benefits of taking AP Art such as
*credit for college (if accepted) as an elective or testing out of 100 level class
*behaving like a college level artist (workload/ risk/ production) as preparation for art school.
*creation of a cohesive portfolio for use in late Winter college/scholarship application
*organization/presentation skills as an artist and/or creator
(matting/work collecting/discipline/documentation/portfolio assembly)
Overview of Art Shows, Exhibitions and Scholarship opportunities our students can participate in.
*IHSAE- between CG and CLC students were offered over $1,000,000 in scholarship offers to various schools.www.ihsae.org
*Portfolio Days- http://www.portfolioday.net/
*Shows at each home school
This is the first time we have organized such an event and are opting for our first year to house all four schools’ Art Department meetings in one in the Cary-Grove High School Auditorium. When you arrive, please find your home school teachers in the Lobby to pick up your AP Art bag & swag, and then proceed to the Auditorium for our presentation starting at 6:30pm. We feel confident the meeting will take no longer than an hour.
Please RSVP HERE. We are so excited to welcome our new class of advanced artists and hope they are as excited as we are to get a head start on next year. If a parent cannot make the meeting, we expect the artist to attend. If the artist cannot attend the meeting, please talk to your home school Art Teacher in person before May 16th.
We look forward to seeing you on the 21st at 6:30pm in the CG Auditorium!
